Doug Williams, the African American quarterback of the Washington Redskins, was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXII. A graduate of predominantly black Grambling University in Louisiana, Williams was the first black quarterback ever to start in a Super Bowl championship game. He completed 18 of 29 passes totaling 340 yards and four touchdowns. The Redskins defeated the Denver Broncos of the American Football Conference 42-10. |
