A Louisiana History Teacher Looks at Egypt
Dittos to catch the kids interest
First, let me say that these ideas are just that, ideas. I got thrown into theaching about the World this year so stay with me here.
Starting with a Pyramid, I wanted the kids to be able to get a feel for one so with my student teacher we created a ditto that they could draw the stones, write in hieroglyphics, and fill the 'inside' of a pyramid. They then cut it out, folded it and made their own pyramid. The directions to making one are as follows and a copy of the ditto can be printed here:
- Color the pharaoh. Use textbook for ideas.
- On the same side of the paper as the pharaoh, create your own hieroglyphics (picture writing) on the four inside walls (triangles). Examples can be found in your text book.
- On the back side of the paper, draw and color bricks on the four triangles to represent the large stones used to build pyramids.
- Carefully cut out along the outside edges of the pyramid. You should have one piece when finished.
- Fold along all remaining lines
- Fold the tabs in and glue or tape tabs to other sides.
- Note: Teacher should make a sample before presenting lesson to the class.
If you use this ideas please email me and let me know what you did and how it worked so that I can pass that information along to other teachers. If you have other ideas email me.
