Established March 2, 1871, this parish was named for the Red River which flows through the entire length of the parish. The history is closely linked with the development of northwestern Louisiana.

The parish seat of Red River is Coushatta. The parish has only a total of 388.6 square miles.

Agriculture: soybeans and cotton.

Industry: Dadco Fashions, Inc.; Sunbeam Corp.; Pineville Kraft Corp.
