Madison, named for the fourth president of the United States, was created January 19, 1838 from part of the Ouachita County, one of the original 12 counties. This section was home of the Tensas and Ouachita tribes. Many Indian mounds can be seen in the parish today.
The parish seat of Madison is Tallulah. With an area totally 624.1 square miles.
