Blue herons, wood ducks, and woodpeckers kept watch as we glided through
the swamp

Everywhere we turned there were eyes on the small craft full of people.

Trees carried the sounds of small birds then ..... ri-i-i-ing ....
"Can you hear me now?"

Hundreds of small insects live in this swamp, yet there were no mosquitoes

No really, I'm in the middle of a swamp. Yea, a swamp. In a boat. With
other teachers.

From dense swamp to open bayous we traveled

Across Lake Martin and into the largest nesting area of wading birds
in Louisiana

Nests were everywhere, on every branch.
A rosette spoonbill stands near its nest watching us with interest
