Two Fun Ideas - Recipes & Postcards
A Great hands on lesson idea

I've had my 7th graders write a
recipe using only Louisiana products. They had to list the ingredients, tell how
to cook the dish, and of course, give their dish a name. They also had to
illustrate their recipe. Some were pretty "far out," but they had fun
sharing them with their classmates.
I've also given my students an index card to design a picture postcard about
our state. Some drew Mardi Gras king cakes and masks, while others drew an
outline of the state showing the major cities. Some even drew Cajun houses,
crawfish, etc. These were displayed in the classroom.
