The Governor's House Huey Long Tore Down
Over the years I have delighted the kids with stories (true and not-so-true)
about Huey Long. One such story was about how he got a "new" governor's mansion
built. I use the 'termites in the old one' story but I have heard several versions -
none of which are true I guess, but they do give the students an idea of the type
man he was.
Over the years I had wondered just want the 'old' house looked like since he said
it wasn't good enough for him and the visiting dignitaries. Last year at the old
state capitol I saw the only picture of that house. The picture was old and faded
but I then knew the house wasn't 'THAT' bad, Huey was just up to his old tricks again.
