Spelling Crossword Puzzle

When I give geography related spelling words, I have my students create, on graph paper, a crossword puzzle of the words. The only "catch" is that all words must be 'crossed' at least twice. First, this makes the puzzle a little tougher. It also means the students will pay closer attention to how the word is spelled and they will write it a "few more times" as my students tell me. Some have even asked if they can color the unused spaces after they finish? Sure! The more time they spend with these words the better.
