Cleaning up with Artifacts
Create artifacts and make the room smell nice at the same time!
from Heather Sarver
F. K. White Middle School
Materials: Soap, plastic knives, paper plates, paper towels
After discussions of Native American artifacts, ask students to bring a bar of soap. Request a soft type such as Ivory, Zest, Dial.
Using plastic knives, have students 'carve' artifacts. Work over paper towels or plates to avoid mess. They can make any type artifact they wish such as boats, bears, birds, bowls, hunting tools.
This project may take a couple of class periods and leaves your room smelling nice.
Evaluate by visually inspecting their work and having them present and explain their artifact to the class.
